Treat them as starting points, not as finished questions. Each one is written broadly enough to suit different programs, which is the same thing that makes it too broad to defend as it stands: a business and management question becomes a dissertation once it names a population, a setting and an outcome you can actually measure. "Leadership and organizational culture" is a shelf, not a topic. A question your data can settle. Look at the titles above: nearly every one names an industry, a country and an outcome someone measured, such as turnover, retention, adoption, emissions or procurement maturity. "The impact of leadership on performance" is a literature review. "Who leaves after being passed over for promotion" is a study with a finding either way.

Often yes, and it is one of the real advantages an MBA student has. Settle two things before you commit: written permission from someone senior enough to give it, and your institution's research ethics process, which will usually want the organization anonymized. Several of the case studies above are single-organization, which is a respected design when the access is genuine.

Both work. The studies above split roughly down the middle: some run surveys of hundreds of employees, others read financial disclosures, procurement records, project post-mortems or interview transcripts. Existing organizational data is usually richer than a survey and much harder to get. Check your program requirements first, though: some specify a minimum sample or rule out secondary data outright, and that narrows the choice before access does. Then decide which you can actually obtain, before you write the question that needs it.

Usually, if you are honest about what it can and cannot show. A case study explains a mechanism in depth; it does not establish that the mechanism generalizes, and examiners object when a thesis quietly claims the second. Say plainly what your case is a case of, and compare it to what the literature found elsewhere. Worth checking your program's own line on it too, since a few require more than one site whatever the design.

In all likelihood it has, in some form, and that is fine. Every question on this page is paired with a real dissertation that took on something close, which is evidence the shape works rather than evidence the slot is filled. What you need beyond that is a gap you can state plainly: a sector nobody has asked, a country where the finding may not hold, or a mechanism the earlier study assumed rather than tested.

You can, but it costs you. Access, jargon and knowing which findings are surprising all come from familiarity, and the studies above are noticeably concentrated in a handful of sectors: banking, healthcare, construction and nonprofits. If you do go outside, budget time for the industry reading you would otherwise not have needed.

Name the context and refuse to drop it. "Employee engagement" is generic; engagement on a bank sales floor run entirely on KPIs is not.
