What this checklist covers

A run through what your results chapter needs to present, and what to leave out, grouped into six sections built from coaching 10,000+ students through it:

Frequently asked questions

Where exactly is the line between results and discussion?

The checklist draws it directly: report your findings without interpreting them against your research questions, theories, or the literature. That interpretation belongs in the discussion chapter.

What if my analysis didn’t go as planned?

There’s an item for that. Adaptation and Responsiveness asks whether you adapted your techniques to handle unexpected results and documented the deviation with a clear rationale.

Does it expect descriptive stats first?

Where they apply, yes, a systematic progression starting with descriptive statistics before more complex analysis. It’s conditional, so a purely qualitative chapter isn’t expected to open with a stats table.

Does it cover how to caption figures and tables?

It checks that you have, not how, that figures and tables are captioned to your required style and correctly labeled, numbered, and referenced in the text.

Does this work for qualitative results too?

The checks are general enough to apply either way. Presenting findings clearly and keeping interpretation out matter whether your data is numbers or interview transcripts.

What level of study is this checklist meant for?

It’s written for the results or analysis chapter at honors, master’s or doctoral level. Your own university’s assessment criteria still take priority where they differ.

What format is the checklist?

It’s a Google Doc. Make a copy to your own Drive to edit it, or download it as a fully editable file if you’d rather work offline.
