Frequently asked questions

Does it cover comparing my findings to the literature?

Yes. The Interpretation of Results section asks you to check that you’ve discussed how your findings compare to the existing literature: where you agree with it, contradict it, or extend it, rather than just describing what you found.

What if my findings don’t match the existing literature?

That’s covered directly. One item asks you to explore why your findings align or differ from prior work, and to consider whether methodology, context, or theoretical differences explain the gap.

Does it mention visuals in the discussion chapter?

Briefly. Under Structure and Clarity there’s a line about using visuals, where suitable, to illustrate relationships of relevance. It’s one item among many rather than a section on chart design.

Is proofreading part of this checklist?

Yes, under Compliance and Quality Control alongside checks on word count, formatting and citations. It’s one line in that section rather than a full copyedit pass.

Does it check for AI-generated text?

Yes. The Final Review section includes an item asking whether you’ve checked your document for plagiarism and AI-generated text, on top of re-reading the chapter and acting on any supervisor feedback.

What level of study is this checklist meant for?

It’s written for the discussion chapter at honors, master’s or doctoral level. The items focus on interpreting your findings against your aims and the literature, which holds regardless of degree. Check your own university’s criteria too.

What format is the checklist?

It’s a Google Doc. Make a copy to your own Drive to edit it, or download it as a fully editable file if you’d rather work offline.
