Alexandra Shaeffer (PhD)
Meet Grad Coach’s multilingual research wiz, Alexandra.
With over 11 years experience in academia, Alexandra has lectured, advised and supervised students, ranging from undergrads to PhDs. Her methodologically diverse set of research skills, combined with a passion for education, heaps of compassion and endless patience make her an invaluable asset to anyone needing a helping hand with their research project.

Alexandra has been studying and working in higher education for the past eleven years. In addition to her work at Grad Coach, she serves as the Coordinator of the Language Learning Center at John Carroll University, where she also teaches courses in French and second language acquisition. Prior to this, Alexandra was an Assistant Professor of French and Linguistics at Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan, where she taught courses in French, foreign language pedagogy, and linguistics.
In addition to her teaching and administrative experience, Alexandra has supervised and supported several student research projects and theses, from initial topic ideation and refinement all the way through to final edit.
Alexandra completed her BA in Modern Languages and Literatures (French and Russian) at Kenyon College in Ohio. She then went on to earn her MA in French (and even lived in France!) with specializations in French and Francophone Literature and Culture from Illinois State University. During her MA, she developed a passion for language teaching and learning which motivated her to pursue a PhD in Second Language Acquisition from the University of Iowa. Addicted to lifelong learning, she is currently pursuing an MA in Education from the University of Exeter in the UK.
