Meet Suzanne Haining (PhD)

With over 15 years of experience in academia, coaching, and research, Dr. Suzanne Haining brings a wealth of knowledge and an approachable, student-centred teaching style to Grad Coach. Suzanne’s work in sport and exercise psychology and her extensive experience in research ethics make her an invaluable guide for students navigating complex research challenges.

Suzanne’s research journey has led her through a variety of projects, from leading studies on adapted sport for recovery to presenting her findings in international academic and public settings. She combines a deep understanding of research methods with a passion for empowering students to take ownership of their research and excel in their academic pursuits.

Experience

Currently an Associate Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Psychology at the Open University, Suzanne has worked across a range of educational roles, including Senior Lecturer in Outdoor Education at Leeds Beckett University and Co-founder of Envicto Coaching, a consultancy specialising in employee engagement and leadership development.

As a Local Research Ethics Coordinator at Leeds Beckett, Suzanne guided staff and students through ethical research practices, ensuring rigorous standards across projects. Suzanne has also published her research widely, from peer-reviewed journals to book chapters, making her a well-rounded coach for students at any level.

Qualifications

Suzanne holds a PhD in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Leeds Beckett University, where she also earned her MSc in the same field. Additionally, she holds a BA (Hons) in Applied Sport Science & Coaching and has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice. Suzanne’s training and experience position her to offer valuable insights into both research methodology and ethics.
