Treat them as starting points, not as finished questions. Each one is written broadly enough to suit different programs, which is the same thing that makes it too broad to defend as it stands: a blockchain and cryptocurrency question becomes a dissertation once it names a population, a setting and an outcome you can actually measure. "Protocols, consensus and incentives" is a shelf, not a topic. Something measurable about a system that already runs. Look at the titles above: nearly every one names a protocol, a market or a deployment and then measures throughput, incentive, leakage or adoption. "The potential of blockchain" is a think piece. "Can selfish mining hide inside ordinary network latency" is a question with an answer either way.

Because there are fewer dissertations. Every question on this page is paired with a real thesis we could verify, and blockchain is a young enough field that the postgraduate literature is genuinely thinner than in, say, education or nursing. We would rather show you thirty-five questions with real studies behind them than pad the list out with generic ideas.

Not for all of it. Roughly a third of the studies above are economics, law, anthropology or management rather than engineering: the legal nature of digital assets, an ethnography of a crypto community, blockchain in food supply chains. The technical strand does need real implementation skill, so be honest with yourself about which side you are on, and check what your own program expects of it.

Public chains are the most open dataset in finance: full transaction histories, mempool traces and contract code are all downloadable, and several studies above are built on nothing else. Off-chain data is harder. Exchange order books, wallet identities and firm-level adoption usually need a partner or a paid feed.

The prices are; the mechanisms are not. A thesis about one token's price cycle will read strangely by the time you submit. A thesis about what happens to a chain's security when block rewards run out, or how arbitrage works in a market with no order book, describes something structural that will still be true.

Assume something close has, and search preprints and conference proceedings as well as journals, because this field publishes there first. Every question on this page is paired with a real dissertation that took on something similar, which is evidence the shape works. What you need beyond that is a gap you can state plainly: a chain, a scale or a setting where the existing result may not hold.

Name the chain. "Blockchain security" is a field; "undetectable selfish mining in Bitcoin" is a thesis. Specifics give you a threat model, a dataset and a community that will read the work, and they make the contribution far easier to state.
